A Kenya safari
is an exceptional experience. Even after over 80 Africa safaris, for us Kenya Africa remains a place so remarkable it stands out even on a continent unparalleled for the richness of its wildlife, landscape, and culture. The landscape is extraordinary-- grassy plains, rock-strewn deserts, extinct volcanoes, fresh and saltwater lakes, forested mountains, palm-fringed beaches, and coral reefs. A highland plateau, crowned by the snowcapped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro (which is in neighboring Tanzania), extends over much of the region. Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya Africa adjoin one another over their nations' borders. Here you will discover populations of elephant, hippo, buffalo, giraffe, gazelle, and impala. Predators, too, are plentiful, especially cheetah, leopard and large prides of lion. 450 species of birds have been recorded. More than one million wildebeest migrate to the northern grassy plains of the Serengeti at the start of the rainy season in December. After birthing in January and February, they scatter over the plains. By May the grass is depleted and the animals begin their trek to the permanent waters of the Serengeti's northern woodlands and Kenya's Masai Mara. Reaching their destination by July, they remain until October when they begin their march back southward. No other area on earth has so many national parks and game reserves as Eastern Africa. Nor does any other region of similar size encompass such a wide variety of habitats and wildlife. In either Kenya Africa or Tanzania you can have an excellent safari anytime of the year that your schedule allows you to go.
