For me and my family & friends, African adventures & safaris are truly life changing experiences. I never forget the look of wonder on my daughter’s face each time we experience another aspect of nature’s glory. Indeed, our African adventures have been among our best family vacation getaways.

One of the most exceptional African experiences is climbing Kilimanjaro.

To put it in context, I will tell you that among our other top ones are canoeing the Zambezi, African hiking safaris in some of Africa’s top national parks & African horse riding safaris, Tanzania safaris in the Serengeti & mountain biking with giraffes and visiting Namibia and its mountain high sand dunes.

Even after 80 plus African safaris, we still look forward to these family adventure vacations. And we look forward to returning to Tanzania to climb Kilimanjaro.

Kilimanjaro Safari Package - Two Climbing Options To Consider

Here are two routes to consider – the Marangu Route, the easiest and the most popular and the Machame Route, considered the most beautiful.

As noted, the Marangu is the most popular and easiest way to the summit. The trail has huts along its route with all the basic necessities. No technical skills are required for this five-day trek. The trek can also be taken in 6 days/5 nights to add acclimatization with an extra day.

The Machame Route is probably the most beautiful route up Kilimanjaro. Where accommodation on the Marangu route is in huts, the Machame route offers strictly tents only. This makes Machame (also referred to as the ``Whiskey route``) better suited to the slightly more adventurous hiker.

The reward for taking the Machame Route? Scenic splendor not seen on the Marangu route, especially the late afternoon sunsets. The Machame route is normally completed in a minimum of 6 days. There is an added benefit to this. You have more time to acclimatize.
