We’ve lived in South Africa since 1993. My wife is a local South African. Since moving here we have been on numerous cultural South Africa tours. (We have been on over 80 African safaris as well.)

So I can tell you first hand that South Africa offers you a well deserved exotic vacation & family vacation getaway second to none. The Zulu are one reason why South Africa is considered so exotic.

The Zulu capture the Western imagination. And they have done so since the British first got permission to trade with them.
This privilege was granted to the British by the great Zulu king, Shaka. Known as “Africa’s Napoleon” because of his military genius, Shaka united the Zulu into the mightiest army in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Zulus are spread across a number of areas of Southern Africa. The Ndebele in northern South Africa, the Swati in Swaziland, the Ndebele in southern Zimbabwe are all Zulus.

However it is the tribe of Zulus, or rather the clan of Zulus in South Africa’s Kwa-Zulu Natal province that handed the mighty British Empire its only defeat by a non modern nation state. You can visit the eerie battlefield of Isandlwana, where the Zulu army massacred British troops in 1879. Then go on to Rorke’s Drift, where a handful of British soldiers heroically held a mighty Zulu regiment at bay. A defeat that later culminated in British control of essentially all of modern day South Africa.

Experience the culture of the Zulus first hand!
